Measuring Guide
Prior to receiving your new piece of Swaim furniture, please make sure that you have measured not only where the piece or pieces are going, but that you have measured any openings along that the furniture will need to pass through your home or business.
Since each piece of Swaim furniture is hand made just for you, we do not allow returns. Since you cannot return it, you need to know that it is going to properly fit your location.
Here's a comprehensive measuring guide for buying upholstered furniture online to ensure it fits the intended space and can be maneuvered through doors, halls, and other obstacles:
Measuring
1. Measure the Room:
-
Measure the length and width of the room where the furniture will be placed. Note any architectural features, such as vents, windows, doors, and built-in furniture, that may affect the placement of the new piece.
2. Measure the Doorways:
-
Measure the height and width of all doorways, hallways, and stairwells through which the furniture must pass. This includes the dimensions of the doorway when it's open, taking into account the swing of the door.
3. Check Staircase and Elevator Dimensions (if applicable):
-
If the furniture needs to be taken upstairs, measure the width and height of staircases or elevators. Ensure that the furniture will fit comfortably through these spaces without the risk of damage.
4. Measure the Pathway:
-
Identify the path the furniture will take from the entrance to its final location. Measure the width of hallways, turns, and any tight corners. Take note of any obstacles or features that may impede the movement of large pieces.
5. Check Ceiling Height:
-
In the rare circumstance that you need to position your piece vertically to move around a room you will need to measure the height of the ceiling, particularly if you are dealing with tall or oversized furniture. Ensure that there is enough clearance to bring the furniture into the room without scraping the ceiling.
6. Consider Obstacles:
-
Identify any potential obstacles along the path, such as light fixtures, wall protrusions, or hanging artwork. Measure the clearance around these obstacles to ensure safe passage for the furniture.
7. Measure Existing Furniture:
-
If you have existing furniture in the room, measure its dimensions. Consider how the new furniture will fit alongside or replace the existing pieces.
8. Account for Door Swings:
-
Be aware of how doors swing open and closed. Measure the space required for the door to open fully without hitting nearby walls or furniture.
9. Consider Window Placement
-
Consider the placement of windows and how it might affect the positioning of the furniture. Ensure that the new piece won't obstruct natural light or interfere with window treatments.
10. Double-Check Measurements:
-
Confirm all measurements multiple times to avoid errors. It's essential to have accurate dimensions to make an informed decision when purchasing online.
11. Review Product Dimensions:
-
Check the product dimensions provided online. Compare these dimensions to your measurements to ensure a proper fit in your space. If there is any question, please call customer care.
